Alarming Statistics of Drug Rehab and Alcohol Rehab in Oregon

May 19th, 2008 by jgold454

There are several statistics about drug and alcohol abuse in general, but statistics on drug and alcohol rehab are quite occasionally let out. The following are some statistics relating to drug and alcohol rehab in Oregon, which shows how grave the situation is. These studies pertain to a 2004 survey carried out by the Treatment Episode Data Set of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

In the year 2004, a total of 45,073 admissions took place in the various centers for drug and alcohol rehab in Oregon. Comparing this number with the overall population of the state at that time, which was close to 3.6 million, it indicates that, roughly, for every 800 Oregonians, 1 person needed rehab treatment for either alcohol addiction or drug addiction. This number is much lesser than other states, but still it is quite significant.

There was also a study released about the split up of the people entering different kinds of treatment. It was found that the people who were admitted to alcohol rehabilitation in Oregon in that year were about 31.7% of the total people who needed rehab. This made alcohol addiction the most widespread form of addiction in the state. The number of people who sought treatment for an alcohol addiction combined with other forms of addiction was much larger than this number.

Substance abuse in Oregon is also quite significant. The studies show that 15.3% people checked in for marijuana treatment, making that the most popular drug abused in the state. This was followed by heroin at 6.4% and cocaine at 2.3%. The use of methamphetamine in Oregon was reported as rising.
