April 30th, 2008 by jgold454

Cocaine has been one of the leading abused substances over the world, but the figures indicate that the popularity of cocaine is much higher than its actual abuse. Though almost everyone in the world knows about cocaine as a recreational drug, the number of actual users of the drug is less than 2 million on a global level.
This drug is available in various forms, but the notable forms are the powder and the crystal. Cocaine powder is sold as coke and cocaine crystals are sold as crack. In both these forms, the drug can be snorted, smoked, injected or inhaled. The powder form is always snorted, while the crystal form is used to make cocaine cigarettes.
Cocaine has a very high effect on the brain. Like other recreational drugs, cocaine causes a feeling of high in the brain which lasts for a temporary period. When this euphoric feeling subsides, the person is left feeling worse than before. To overcome this depression, the person wants another dose of cocaine, creating a drug abuse problem. Slowly, as time passes, the person becomes increasingly immune to cocaine and wants this drug in greater amounts. This leads to financial, biological and social ruin of the person.
Among other substances used in drug addiction, cocaine definitely stands head over shoulders where the negative effects over the body are concerned. It can cause heart diseases, spasms in the muscles, convulsions and can even damage the nasal tissue if regularly snorted. Mixing cocaine with other drugs can be immediately lethal to the body. This is why addiction treatment is important.
