The state of Delaware faces a very huge drug addiction problem that is showing no signs of subsiding since the past several decades despite several efforts by alcohol and drug rehab centers to seek a permanent and lasting remedy to remove this vice from the state.

Campaigning against substance abuse in Delaware can be considered to be the strongest on a national level, but even then Delaware has not been able to solve the issue. Today, about 8,000 people in Delaware seek alcohol and drug abuse treatment each year. While this figure may not seem to be so huge all by itself, but when it is calculated as a percentage over the total population of the state, it does seem to be quite forbidding. A rough calculation would indicate that 1 in every 100 people of Delaware needs to seek substance abuse treatment. What is more appalling is the fact that Delaware has a huge rate of addiction to extremely dangerous drugs like heroin and cocaine. Both these drugs are notable for their very strong addictions which mostly cannot be treated with just one session at a rehab and they have very noticeable side effects on the body. Today, from the total population of Delaware that seeks treatment each year for their various addictions, about 27% of the people are into heroin addiction and 17% people are into cocaine addiction.

Apart from that, marijuana has always been a mainstay in the problem of drug addiction in Delaware and it still rules strongly. 20% of the people who seek drug addiction treatment in Delaware are addicted to marijuana. This is certainly not all. Like other states in the US, Delaware is also seeing an outbreak of methamphetamine and MDMA addictions in its nightclubs and rave parties.
